arm Cottage, a deceptive name for this spacious detached stone-built house, it has been occupied solely by the Telford family for approx 5 generations. Prior to this it was originally outbuildings or a byre on a nearby farm which has long since been demolished. Evidence of the cottages history is evident in its construction throughout the original part of the building.
It became a tied cottage on the Cragside Estate owned by Lord Armstrong. Then in 1972 Allen and Joan were fortunate in being able to purchase the cottage from the estate and to commence their long and rewarding task of converting the cottage, preserving its special character to create the beautiful unique home you see today.
The cottage has many tales to tell - or better still ask Allen!
His Father, Jack was the only driver of the steam driven road roller, The Coquet Lass. It was used to maintain the roads throughout the Coquet Valley. When Jack retired so did the Coquet Lass. She was driven to Beamish Museum to 'rest in peace', but sadly an accident occurred at the entrance to the museum causing damage. She lay in pieces for several years before being purchased by an enthusiast who has carried out the task of restoring her. Many photographs and mementoes of the Lass can be seen in the cottage.
In 1996 the 'second phase' of Farm Cottage's history began when Joan & Allen commernced their bed & breakfast business.
